1. About This Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Northwake ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the KanaFlip iOS application ("App"). By using the App, you acknowledge this policy.

2. Information We Collect

KanaFlip does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on external servers. The App operates entirely on your device. The following data is generated and retained locally on your device only:

• Study progress — which kana cards you have reviewed and their spaced-repetition level.
• Quiz statistics — personal bests and aggregate quiz results.
• App settings — appearance preference (light, dark, or system) and onboarding completion status.

This data is stored using Apple's SwiftData framework and UserDefaults. None of it is transmitted to Northwake or any third party.

3. No Account Required

KanaFlip requires no account, registration, or sign-in. We do not collect your name, email address, or any other identifying information.

4. Notifications

If you enable daily study reminders, KanaFlip uses Apple's local notification system. Notifications are scheduled entirely on-device. No data is sent to any external server to deliver reminders.

5. Home Screen Widget

The "Kana of the Day" widget determines which character to display using the current calendar date and your widget configuration (hiragana, katakana, or both). It does not access your study progress or any personal data. Nothing is transmitted to an external server to power the widget.

6. Third-Party Services

KanaFlip does not integrate any third-party analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or crash-reporting services. The App contains no advertising of any kind.

7. Data Sharing and System Share Actions

We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share your data with any third party — because we hold no data to share. All information stays on your device.

The App may offer optional system share actions — for example, sharing your diploma via the iOS share sheet. These actions are entirely under your control and use iOS's standard sharing mechanism. Northwake does not receive a copy of anything you share, and the destination you choose is governed by that service's own privacy practices.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

All App data is stored locally on your device for as long as KanaFlip is installed. To permanently delete all KanaFlip data, uninstall the App from your device. This removes all stored progress, statistics, and settings.

9. Security

Because all data remains on your device, it is protected by the security features built into iOS — including device passcode, Face ID, and Touch ID. We do not transmit data over networks and therefore do not operate servers that could be compromised.

10. EEA, UK & Switzerland

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the following applies.

Controller. Northwake is the data controller for any personal data processed in connection with this App.

Legal basis. Because KanaFlip does not transmit personal data to Northwake, we do not process your personal data on our systems and no GDPR legal basis is triggered for the App itself.

Your rights. You have rights under applicable law — including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, and portability. Because we hold no personal data about you on our systems, the most direct way to exercise these rights is to uninstall the App (which removes all locally stored data). For any other requests, contact us at hello@northwake.dev and we will respond within 30 days.

Retention. All data remains on your device for as long as the App is installed.

11. California Residents

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), California residents have certain rights regarding personal information. KanaFlip does not sell or share your personal information with third parties, and we do not use personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. 12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be noted in the App's release notes. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
